Adventure Away at a D&D B&B: Get Away and Slay

On New Years Eve this past year I didn’t know how hard the year was going to be. I booked a birthday get away so I could play D&D an escape from things for 2 days. Little did I know I would be watching loved ones have to fight off cancer, get taken down by ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura) and watch in horror was my government turned on its very institutions and principles doing irreparable damage to our country (and causing my company to lay off or furlough many of my colleagues). Nothing felt big or beautiful as we watched Texas try to recover from Biblical Flooding that killed over 100 people (including many youth who were away at camp). By the time my birthday rolled around I was ready to get away (and not annoy family with roleplaying fun.).

The company I booked with was Adventure Away a Maryland based company that offers DM services, Parties, Summer Camps and Weekend D&D Weekend Get Aways. I booked the Chaotic Good Room (Queen Bed, Sitting Space… Nice). I arrived to find my party checking in too. We settled in We varied in age and gender, but we came together quickly as a party. The food was brought in from local restaurants and plentiful, the property well kept and all in all it was a very pleasant stay. Our host, Lindsay was extremely helpful and caffeinated.

Our adventure was spread over 4 sessions. We met in a tavern, took a slow boat to a haunted island. We had some easy encounters, some hard. All were fun and challenging. Tasha, our skilled DM, kept us entertained and we managed to get her laughing hard. I think we broke her at one point as she laughed so hard we all got inspiration. I would play with anyone in this party again, but Tasha is a must to play with if you get the chance. Very supportive, extremely inclusive and just a fun person to play with. Plus she gave us Chocolate by Death (Salted Caramel were my favorite) when we vanquished an opponent.

Great experience. Was able to step way from my worries. Loved getting to play with a group that varied in age and experience levels. The world was waiting while I got to live by the rule of cool for 2 days. Thanks Adventure Away for allowing me to get away from all my worries. It sure meant a lot.
